Students at Lampton School were treated to a literary event fit for the Bloomsbury Group on Friday when a well known children's author dropped by for a reading.
Leicester-based author Bali Rai visited the Hounslow school's library to talk to pupils in years eight, nine and 10 about the inspiration for each of his books.
Some of Mr Rai's titles include (Un)arranged Marriage, What's Your Problem? and The Last Taboo. His works often deal with multicultural issues, such as forced marriages and racism.
Lampton School's librarian, Alison MacGregor, who organised the special literary visit, said the pupils had been reading the books for weeks and had plenty of questions for Mr Rai. She said: "They wondered how Bali learned to write from the point of view of a 15-year-old girl, and how he learned to write in Jamaican slang."
A group of year 11 pupils took part in a creative writing workshop with the author and practised ascribing personality traits to inanimate objects.
By the end of the day Mr Rai had signed 70 books for the enthusiastic pupils and they are all now eagerly awaiting the publication of two of his books this summer.
