More than 20 streets in Watford are getting a deep clean.

Over the next three weeks Watford Borough Council will be replacing the tarmac and repairing 99 metre square of footpaths and 39 metre square of roads.

So far, around 15 bags of leaves have been collected from 21 streets in the wards of Callowland, Leggatts, Holywell, Vicarage and Central Watford.

The roads are usually busy with parked cars which makes it difficult for the regular street cleaning patrols to access parts of the road.

Signage and potholes will be repaired and new lines painted on the roads where necessary.

Elected Mayor Dorothy Thornhill said: "These deep cleans can make a real difference to a road, and to the local community, but people must keep the roads clear. That is absolutely crucial – if there are lots of cars on the roads, we can’t do what we need to do."
