A Watford college student has won a national award for his skill in electrical installation.

West Herts College student Chris Evans was awarded the silver medal in the WorldSkills UK National Finals at The Skills Show.

Mr Evans competed in the advanced heat for electrical installation and outperformed 10 other competitors from across the country at The NEC, Birmingham.

He said: "About half of us managed to complete the install and test, but nobody completed the main task as we all run out of time."

The event spanned over three days with skill competitions and team exercises across a range of electrical installation techniques.

Mr Evans said he particularly enjoyed the team exercises.

He said: "They didn't affect the final results and were just to get members of the public involved with the competitors and enjoy themselves."

He added: “All in all it was a great experience and I made some good friends. The support from the college was brilliant, it was great to see my tutor Tony Greene and Bev Cannon make it to the award ceremony.

"Tony has been a great support throughout the whole of my WorldSkills heats and competitions and I would like to thank him once again.”
