The company that collects rubbish and recycling in Watford is teaching schoolchildren about caring for the environment as part of science lessons.

Veolia, which provides waste and recycling collections, street cleaning and parks maintenance services in partnership with Watford Borough Council, is offering the free sessions to pupils across Watford.

So far more than 4,600 children in 11 different primary schools have been involved in 83 waste warrior sessions about the importance of caring for the local environment.

The education and outreach team offer fun and interactive assemblies and workshops focused on waste and recycling, litter, climate change and nature.

The team recently visited pupils from Cherry Tree Primary School and helped the children plant a sea of bulbs in the grounds around the school. Sessions met key curriculum links for science.

Matt Crane, senior contract manager for Veolia in Watford, said: “The Watford waste warriors education programme is a fantastic tool for educating the borough’s young people about the importance of taking care of the environment.

"All activities have key curriculum-links to subjects including Science, Maths and English, and are fun and interactive.”
