Painters, electricians and estate agents teamed up to redecorate a care home.

Inspired by the popular surprise home decoration television programmes, Marshall Vizard launched a competition for people to nominate worthy recipients of a home make-over.

Three finalists were chosen from the entries and put to a vote, with 53 per cent choosing Hillside care home as the winner.

Those living in the Watford Mencap care home, were amazed when their freshly decorated lounge was revealed.

Jemma Gish, from Marshall Vizard, said: “We are delighted with the end result. The room looks fantastic and we are extremely grateful to the local businesses, who were involved.”

Wilko donated accessories and Green Moor Projects Ltd donated their free time, materials and skills to recreating the living room.

Marshall McGeever worked on plumming and D C Smith Electrical covered electrics.

The residents were involved with choosing the colour scheme, with accessories donated by Wilkos.

Local businesses, Green Moor Projects Ltd (Decorating), Marshall McGeever (Plumbing) Floor Coverings (Carpets) and D C Smith Electrical Ltd (Electrics) all donated their time, workmanship and materials, to ensure the makeover was completed to a high standard.

Michelle Hamilton, Fundraiser at Watford Mencap added “We thought that the lounge at Hillside, was a perfect project, as it was very tired looking. We were thrilled to win the public vote.

Marshall Vizard and the contractors understood how this is a real home for the people that live here and that it was very important for them to be involved.
