Artistsmeet is taking a closer look at the natural world with an exhibition exploring rivers and the history they possess, presented by Rickmansworth photographer Duncan Unsworth.

Using two different styles- traditional photography and scanographs, Duncan’s exhibition will showcase Three Rivers and the Thames.

Three Rivers will be a documentary study of the local waterways including the Rivers Colne, Chess and Gade which meet in Rickmansworth. These rivers retain many traces of history as they pass through a landscape as it changes from rural to urban to post-industrial.

“The waterways around Rickmansworth are both beautiful and historically fascinating” Duncan tells me. “They have frequently been altered by man’s activities and so retain fragments of history which I have tried to capture in photographs.

For the Thames, he will present a collection focusing upon the mysteries and histories enclosed in the waters of the River Thames. The images are made by using river water and items collected from the beaches beside the river to create striking and thought provoking still life assemblages.

Duncan adds: “It is great to have the opportunity to exhibit the photographs in a local gallery and hopefully visitors will discover snippets of history as well as enjoying the images.”

Duncan has worked as a television cameraman for over 35 years with credits including The Vicar of Dibley, One Foot in the Grave and many episodes of Eastenders. His photography has been regularly shown and is associated with the London Independent Photography and the Contemporary Group of the RPS.
