Harpenden Swimming Pool is set to be transformed into a new leisure centre – and you can have your say on the designs.

St Albans District Council is taking views from residents on the new concept designs, which will see the swimming pool and sports centre turned into an integrated leisure centre and modern arts facility.

The arts centre designs include rooms for a theatre of up to 500 seats, an exhibition space and bars on two floors, while the new leisure centre will have a larger pool with moveable depth floor along with a gym holding three times as many stations as the current facility.

Cllr Annie Brewster, who is responsible for sports, leisure and heritage, said: “This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to develop new leisure, arts and cultural facilities for people living in Harpenden and the north of the district.

“It is important that as many people as possible have the opportunity to give their thoughts and ideas on the new facilities.”

Ideas put forward in briefing sessions so far include improving access and providing a public café overlooking Rothamsted Park along with an all-weather artificial football pitch.

The council has also proposed to develop Harpenden Public Halls once the renovation is completed, with collaboration at the heart of the design process.
