Heard the one about the Mayor of Watford getting heckled on his way to work?
Neither have we – but that didn’t stop BBC’s Have I Got News For You namechecking the town in one of their gags.
Opening Friday night’s show, guest host Adil Ray (below) played a video clip of an angry pedestrian heckling a driver about the street signage before he walked into a lamppost.
He said over the clip: “The Mayor of Watford was berated by an angry resident on his way to work.”
But eagle-eyed viewers would have noticed that the road is not in Watford – but in fact on the other side of the world in Adelaide.
Close much?
Not only that, but last time we checked we had a female mayor.
The town’s elected mayor Dorothy Thornhill said it wasn’t the first time she had been incorrectly referred to on the show.
During filming at the Colosseum in Hempstead Road a few years ago, panellist Paul Merton referred to her as Doreen.
She told the Watford Observer: “I love the show and would welcome it back to Watford any time, so the panellists can meet the woman mayor of the town.”
