A footballer's charity has hit a £40,000 fundraising target for a school in Garston.

The Troy Deeney Foundation, launched by Watford FC captain Troy Deeney and his wife, Stacey, in January 2017, has hit its £40,000 fundraising target to build a new sports area for Garston Manor School.

The funds were raised through an online giving page and charity golf day, which will finance the multi-sports facility with a soft surface and games such as street snooker and the cross bar challenge.

Garston Manor School is a specialist school for children with autism, learning difficulties and speech and language issues, serving students aged 11 – 16.

Mr Deeney said: "We have been blown away by the passion and dedication all the teachers and staff show to the pupils there and it has been an honour to help them as our first foundation project.

"Building work has started and will be finished in time for when the kids return from their summer holidays so they will have an engaging and safe area to play in and participate in different sporting activities."

The facility is designed by Watford-based company PlayInnovation.
