In July, a controversial 24-storey tower block in Ascot Road, Watford was approved by Watford Borough Council. The development will be spread across five blocks of varying heights and contains 170 affordable units as well as community areas.

A disabled child was left “extremely distressed” after injuring himself in a new paddling pool at Cassiobury Park, Watford, two weeks after it opened. A female visitor also cut her arm after tripping on an unseen step. Upgrades to the pools in the park had cost £2.8 million.

Drastic traffic restrictions and road layout changes in Watford town centre were proposed as part of the redevelopment of a shopping centre. The council-owned Charter Place is being rebuilt and integrated with intu Watford centre, creating a single 1.4m sq ft retail park.

Watford Borough Council granted planning approval for the development of new office space in Clarendon Road that will house the new European headquarters of TJX Europe, the operator of the TK Maxx. It consists of a new 12-storey office building with a high level footbridge and a basement car park directly opposite Watford Junction Station.
