Part of a “vital” bus route is set to be cut by the end of the month due to a lack of funding.

Mullany’s Coaches have confirmed the 318 bus route will be withdrawn between Abbots Langley and Hemel Hempstead at the beginning of February.

The service will start later and finish earlier and on Saturdays, it will be reduced to hourly with a two-hour gap mid-afternoon.

Cllr Sara Bedford, who represents Abbots Langley, is calling for the service to be taken on by another transport authority to ensure it is kept on the road.

She said: "This service is vital for many residents for jobs, health, education and leisure travel.”

A spokesperson for Mullany’s Coaches added that without funding or support, they will no longer be able to run the service.

The spokesperson said: “In the absence of any funding and support it is not financially viable for us to continue to run the 318 service to Hemel Hempstead.”
