The deadline for nominations for a host of community awards has been extended.

Those wishing to put names forward for the St Albans Mayor’s Pride Awards now have until February 5.

The awards celebrate the achievements of inspiring individuals, hard-working community and voluntary groups, as well as public-spirited businesses.

Mohammad Iqbal Zia, Mayor of the City and District of St Albans, said: “Help celebrate these unsung heroes and extraordinary organisations that contribute to our community in positive and amazing ways by putting their names forward for these awards.

“The nomination deadline has been extended so everyone has the maximum opportunity to nominate and reward the stars of our local community.”

A panel of judges, including the Mayor, will select a shortlist of finalists to be announced in late February.

All the finalists will then be invited to a celebratory evening at St Michael’s Manor on March 27 when the winners will be revealed.

The categories open for nomination are community champion of the year, the cultural innovation award, young person of distinction, community project of the year, community orientated business of the year, environmental champion of the year, the voluntary sector award and the inclusive communities award.

A special Mayor’s Recognition Award will also be given to a person or group that has made a significant impression on Mr Zia during his year of office.
