Troy Deeney looks certain to miss Saturday's FA Cup fourth round tie at Southampton.

Watford's captain has been sidelined by illness, and has yet to train alongside his team-mates since Javi Gracia was appointed on Sunday. Heurelho Gomes and Molla Wague are also out, and Tom Cleverley faces a late fitness test.

Deeney has looked in good form in recent games, setting up Abdoulaye Doucoure's equaliser against the Saints when the two sides met at Vicarage Road a fortnight ago, and scoring against Bristol City in the third round.

But rumours have continued to dog the 29-year-old that his time at the club may be up - and Newcastle, Everton and West Bromwich Albion are all reported to be interested in signing him.

The Baggies have the clearest interest, but will not firm their admiration into a bid unless they sell Jonny Evans, who has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal.

"I don’t know what will happen in the future [with Deeney]," said Gracia. "There are people in the club who work on these things."

Watford made clear on Sunday they would make money available to Gracia in order to improve the Hornets' squad before the end of the month.

But with 10 players missing through injury, he has only six days to do so before the transfer window slams shut on Wednesday.

"I’m only worried about the players I have, and trying to improve them," he said. "I’m not thinking about the players coming in or out, there are other people in the club who will do that. I have enough to do my job already."
