Mr Anthony Bramley-Harker (A mayor to free Watford, Opinion, February 16) makes lots of hypothetical vague comments regarding three political parties that will be standing in this year’s mayoral election. So far the only solid constructive thing I have heard from these three parties is one party promising a manifesto declaration to go to the electorate and hold a referendum on the important question of whether the electorate wants a mayor who will be given a four-year term of office and be paid over a quarter of a million pound, or does the electorate want to go back to pre-2002 and have a mayor who will serve a one-year term of office with no salary?
