Boreham Wood boss Luke Garrard insists his side remain full of confidence about their play-off challenge heading into tomorrow’s home game against Chester.

Wood suffered back-to-back defeats after their 2-0 home loss to champions elect Macclesfield Town on Tuesday but are still in the top six of the National League.

Garrard told the club website: “We do have an agenda. If you were to say to me back in June and July, you’d be sitting sixth with three games to play and with an opportunity to get into the play-offs, I probably would have bitten your hand off.

“The fact that we’ve had a chance to potentially go into second and third spot is a frustration but we’ve still got an opportunity.

“I remember when we had three games to stay in this league and to have three games to get out of it, I know what pressure I’d like.”

Second-bottom Chester have been relegated but there is no chance Wood will take their opponents lightly.

Garrard said: “The focus for us is Chester. We don’t look past Chester. We work on what we need to work on and go into the match full of confidence and positivity to win a game of football.

“Chester are a very good side. Yes, they’re out of the league now and unfortunately been relegated but they’ve gone and beaten Bromley who are in the FA Trophy final so no game at this level is going to be easy.”

Runaway leaders Macclesfield opened the scoring after 20 minutes when Tyrone Marsh managed to beat home goalkeeper Grant Smith to a loose ball and tap in his effort.

Morgan Ferrier almost equalised but his shot went narrowly past the post.

But Macclesfield clinched the points in the 58th minute when Marsh scored again from Danny Whitaker’s cross.

Garrard said: “I think they’re a very good side. You can have a good run in the FA Trophy and the FA Cup but the team that goes and wins the league thoroughly deserve it.

“I felt we nullified them to limited opportunities and we probably had the better chances.

“The goal that we conceded there are so many bits you can improve on and areas you can nullify from the source. It was very frustrating on the evening, to concede the goals we have, because I feel we’re a side that limit teams in our box.”
