The MP for Watford has welcomed the Government’s plans to provide an extra £2 million towards repairing pot holes across the county.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling announced in March that the Department for Transport would be helping Hertfordshire County Council's pot hole fund.

This is on top of the £75 million funding already given to councils from the Pothole Action Fund this year, as well as additional £46 million boost for highways authorities announced just before Christmas.

Richard Harrington said today that the funding will help repair damage caused by snow and ice earlier this year.

Harrington said today: "People rely on good roads and unfortunately, we have seen a lot of bad weather recently, which has caused damage to our roads.

“That's why I'm delighted we're getting an extra £2 million from the Department for Transport, which repair close to 31,000 pot holes across the county, as well as help protect the roads from any future severe weather.”

Mr Grayling added: “People rely on good roads to get to work and to see friends or family.

“We have seen an unusually prolonged spell of freezing weather which has caused damage to our local roads.

“We are giving councils even more funding to help repair their roads so all road users can enjoy their journeys without having to dodge potholes.”
