The results of the Oxhey by-election have been announced.
Liberal Democrat, Imran Hamid, won 55 per cent of the vote.
This comes as Peter Taylor was elected Mayor of Watford in last month's Watford Borough Council election, meaning he had to step down from his role.
Cllr Hamid lives in Blackwell Road, Oxhey.
He said: "I’m so honoured to be elected to represent the community I love. I’m looking forward to joining a strong Lib Dem team in Oxhey to deliver real improvements to our area.
"I’ll always make sure that I keep in touch with residents and work hard all year round. I can’t wait to get stuck in."
He joins the team of 26 Liberal Democrat councillors in Watford.
Mayor Taylor said: "It’s clear from the local election results in May and from the result last night that people in Watford trust the Lib Dem’s to work hard for them and deliver first class services.
"The Lib Dem’s will carry on working hard to keep Watford moving forwards."
He was up against Labour's Sue Sleeman and Conservative Joseph Gornicki.
