A fun day which was held in a park for the first time in 60 years was a “huge success.”

Hundreds of people flocked to Garston Park for a day of live music, craft stalls, stilt walkers and outdoor games.

The event also showcased plans for improvements to Garston Park, including walkways to help it attain Green Flag status.

It was organised by Meriden Liberal Democrat Councillor Amanda Grimston.

She said: “It’s fantastic to see so many people in Meriden come and enjoy our fun day.

“There were hundreds of people who came and the whole day was a huge success.

“We’re so lucky to have Garston Park on our doorstep and I want to make sure it’s an attractive place as possible for residents to come and use.

“I hope this is the first of many fun days for Garston Park.”

Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor, praised the nearby Meriden ward councillors for organising the day.

He said: “A massive congratulations to all the Meriden councillors.

“Particularly Amanda Grimston who worked so hard to get this event off the ground.

“One of my key pledges when I was elected your mayor was to get even more of our parks and green spaces up to Green Flag status.

“I’m looking forward to Garston Park joining the list.”
