Following the 28 June hit-and-run collision on Hampermill Lane, which seriously injured two men and required an air ambulance, as well as closing the road for six hours, I’d like to thank our district councillors Alison and Andrew Scarth and county councillor Frances Button.
They all responded quickly and are doing everything possible to address immediate issues, including trees obscuring important roadsigns and vegetation growing across the only pavement along that stretch of the road.
Other longer-term practical road safety measures are also being actively considered to protect pedestrians, reduce speeding and deter dangerous driving.
We are lucky to have these local councillors, who work hard in this way and put any political differences aside to pull together when seminal situations like this occur.
