A golfing club has made a significant donation to a charity which teaches people with disabilities how to sail.

On July 16 the West Watford Golfing Society gave a cheque for £1,000 to Colne Valley Special Sailors - Sailing for People with Disabilities, based at the Rickmansworth Aquadrome, to buy new equipment.

Colne Valley Special Sailors are a charity run entirely by volunteers whose aim is to make sailing accessible to people with disabilities of all ages.

The cheque was presented by past captain of the golfing society, Brian Willetts, to Graham Vickers, a trustee from Colne Valley Special Sailors.

Brian said: “When our recent captain Paul Glover received a call for help to support a local disabled sailing charity in replacing worn out sails, he had no hesitation in 'sailing to the rescue'.

"We were delighted to help such a worthy cause.”

Graham Vickers said: “This donation will make such difference and we are all so very grateful to everybody at West Watford Golfing Society.”

To date, the golfing society has raised more than £420,000 for other causes in the area.
