A “presentable” young man tapped on the window of a woman’s car while she was in her driveway before leaning in and snatching her handbag.
The victim, in her 70s, was parking up in her drive in Steeplands, Bushey, at 1pm on Friday when a man appeared and gestured for her to open her window.
She did, and the man made a grab for her handbag, took it, and ran off. He said nothing at all.
It’s believed he fled into a waiting blue car, which had foreign number plates, before it sped off.
The suspect is described as white and wearing a dark blue baseball cap.
The victim had been returning from a shopping trip at Waitrose in Harrow Weald when she was targeted outside her home.
Reportedly, a police officer told her they have received similar reports in Hertfordshire and all thefts have taken place in a driveway, so members of the public are being warned to be vigilant.
Anyone with any information about the bag snatch in Bushey is asked to contact police on 101 quoting crime reference number 41/26203/18.
