The A41 has reopened following a crash between a car and a motorcyclist.

Police shut the major road in Watford in both directions between the Meriden estate and the Dome roundabout because of the incident which happened at around 1.15pm (Sunday).

An air ambulance was reportedly called to the scene. There is no information at this stage on the conditions of those involved.

Traffic was brought to a standstill in North Watford for much of the afternoon, however these delays have now cleared.

But drivers continue to face severe delays today due to the first day of the Janmashtani festival at the Hare Krishna Temple in Hilfield Lane near Bushey.

The A41 remains very busy between the M1 junction and Sandy Lane near McDonald's and on the A41 from Elstree to Sandy Lane.

The M1 has also been affected for much of the day and queues remain northbound. Traffic has eased southbound but there are still delays at j5.

Local routes in Bushey also remain affected.

The festival will continue into a second and final day tomorrow as thousands head to the Bhaktivedanta Manor.
