Delays due to roadworks along Whippendell and Rickmansworth Roads indicate just how close the town centre is to gridlock.
Wiggenhall Road is busy at the best of times and with the new set of lights controlling traffic at the junction of Tom Sawyer Way (the new link road), it doesn’t take long before tailbacks build up.
Business units have barely opened and over four hundred houses have yet to be built along the link road - and already congestion is mounting.
With restricted access only “ahead’ and no access to Vicarage Road, how are the residents of the 400 houses meant to travel?
The hospital link road behind was a missed opportunity to facilitate a west Watford bypass.
If a flyover was unviable, surely in the very least a roundabout would have been more fitting and better eased flow or intelligent lights that don’t stay red for ages on end even when no vehicle is evident in the other phase.
It just drives road users round the bend.
