A popular pop-up café is about to celebrate its first birthday.

The Random Café, part of The Real Junk Food Project, will mark its one-year anniversary at west Watford Community Centre, on September 15.

Doors open from 1pm – 3pm.

The community interest group are a not-for-profit organisation who take surplus food from supermarkets, bakeries, shops and allotments that would otherwise be thrown away, and offer that produce to customers for a nominal donation.

Saturday’s event will have definite “birthday feel” with a Random Cafe birthday cake, a large selection of celebratory cupcakes and the usual “posh toast”, cakes, savouries and tea and coffee all available on a “pay as you feel” basis.

The organisation relies on good faith gestures and word of mouth to broaden the discussion on food wastage, generally.

The Random Café currently hosts pop-up shops at four locations and continues to resolve #feedbelliesnotbins
