Staff at a bank will be raising money for a homeless charity.
Members of Barclays bank in Watford high street say they see homeless people on the streets outside their workplace every day and try to what they can do keep them warm and fed.
Assistant branch manager at the bank, Antonia Labiran, has already held one event to raise money for New Hope this year, in April, and this Thursday, she will hold a second cake bake sale.
Five months ago, Ms Labiran donated a series of items to New Hope with the bank had collected including clothes, toiletries, and food. She has also spent nights walking the streets of Watford checking on rough sleepers’ wellbeing while also handing out bags with essential items.
She said: “It is all about empathy, reaching out to others, showing love, caring, listening, and lifting each other up. My passion comes from the fact that they are human and could be any one of us.
“I met one of the ladies on the street once who wanted to share the bag we gave her with others. It brought a tear to my eye. They are part of our family at Barclays, which we see on our doorstep.”
For every £1 that is raised in Ms Labiran’s and her colleague’s fundraising events, Barclays matches it. In total, £1,600 was raised in April.
So if you’ve got a sweet tooth or you want to do your bit for charity, then head down to Barclays in Watford High Street, near Market Street this Thursday. All donations are welcome.
