Councillors unanimously approved plans to build 151 flats at a site near Bushey Arches.
A developer put forward a proposal to redevelop the site of the former Massey waste transfer station, and the application was warmly received by all members of the development management committee at Watford Borough Council.
The permission means that six blocks could be constructed ranging between three and nine storeys. The development will also include a retail unit.
The Chalk Hill site will provide 69 car parking spaces. There will be two points of access to the site.
The proposal will not meet the council’s 35 per cent affordable housing policy, however it has been subject to policy review and found to show the maximum provision possible.
