Nine flats have been given permission in a car park after councillors unanimously voted in favour of the scheme.

Plans were granted to build a two storey building comprising of seven two-bedroom flats and two one-bedroom flats next to The Wellington in Theobald Street, Borehamwood, at a planning meeting on Monday night.

The car park is currently used for permit holders using the train station.

The application had been amended to reduce the height, especially the bulkiness of the roof.

There will be six car parking spaces and four bike spaces. Councillors raised concerns about parking management and it was agreed to add a condition to find a system that worked for future residents.

It was mentioned that the new building will “improve the visual appearance” of the area.

Cllr Jeremy Newmark said he would have liked to have seen ten flats built rather than nine which meant that the developer would have had to have met Hertsmere Borough Council’s 35 per cent affordable housing policy.

No neighbours responded to consultation however Elstree & Borehamwood Town Council stated they believed the proposal was “overdevelopment” for the area when they responded.
