A park has won an accreditation as one of the country’s top 10 favourite green spaces.

Today, Watford's Cassiobury Park has been announced by Green Flag Award as one of the winners of the 2018 People’s Choice vote.

Earlier this year, Keep Britain Tidy awarded more than 1,700 Green Flag Awards to the nation’s best-managed parks and green spaces.

Watford Borough Council won 12 Green Flag Awards.

However, to find the best park the environmental charity asked people to vote for their favourite.

A total of 70,000 people were asked to vote on Britain’s best green and open spaces.

Cassiobury Park joins winners from across England, Scotland and Wales.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “Cassiobury is the jewel in Watford’s crown – an amazing beauty spot with a lot of history behind it.

“With the new Cassiobury Park Hub, state of the art paddling pools with exciting splash pool and water features, a booming bandstand and a packed programme of activities all year round.

“It is not hard to see why the park is a top 10 destination.

“Cassiobury Park has met the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award and this recognition is an acknowledgement to the hard work of the teams that make them such great places.

“Alongside the park holding a Green Flag and being one of the 10 most loved parks in Britain, the Cassiobury Hub building recently won two accolades at Hertfordshire Building Futures Awards for Most Sustainable Construction Award and Project of the Year.”
