A leisure management company is inspiring its community to take part in a sporting event to raise funds for those affected by the Grenfell Fire Disaster.

Bannister Leisure Centre will work with Harrow Council to challenge people in the area to take part in a 24-hour activity challenge to provide funding for various projects supporting the Grenfell community.

The event will be held at Bannister Sports Centre on October 20 at 12pm.

Everyone Actives’ Westway Sports and Fitness Centre acted as one of the main support hubs during the disaster, closing for six weeks to provide food, shelter and advice to victims.

Bannister Sports Centre staff supported the humanitarian act.

On Saturday, participants will take part in a 24-hour athletics relay with hopes of raising £2,500.

John Sewell, Everyone Active contract manager, said: “Ensuring we can continue to support those affected by the Grenfell disaster is a cause very close to our hearts here at Everyone Active.

“Sport has an incredible ability to bring people together and can play a huge role in the healing process.

“We are going to do everything we can to raise as much money as possible for those that were affected by Grenfell and help provide them with new opportunities to take part in physical activity and sport. We hope to see as many members of our community as possible come together and get active to help raise money for an important cause.”
