Supermarket staff and supporters have raised more than £2,000 for a cancer charity.
Tesco employees throughout Watford helped to raise £2,463 for Cancer Research UK by joining women across the country in this year’s Race for Life.
Race for Life is a series of women-only 5k, 10k and Pretty Muddy events which raises millions of pounds every year for vital cancer research.
This year, 74 colleagues from stores and distribution centres across Watford took part.
Since 2002 Tesco has raised over £45 million for Cancer Research UK.
Money raised through Race for Life helps the charity to fund long-term research and pioneering trials, leading to new tests and kinder treatments.
The charity said cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s.
Emily Smith, head of events and marketing at Cancer Research UK said: “Every year, we’re staggered by people’s generosity in giving their time and money to this event and we’re grateful to everyone who took part or donated.
“Race for Life brings together thousands of women from across the country and your support will go a long way towards helping us end cancer.”
Alec Brown, head of community at Tesco said: “Cancer touches so many of us and we’re proud to have been the official partner of Race for Life for seventeen years.
“Every year, it is inspiring to see as our colleagues and customers alike go above and beyond for this fantastic cause.”
