A controlled explosion has safely taken place after a suspicious device was found in woodland this morning.

Hertfordshire Constabulary cordoned off an area in Tunnel Wood Road, in Watford, after initially being called at 9.45am.

Officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended and deemed the device to be from World War Two.

Specialist officers moved to nearby Orchard Park, off Gammons Farm Close, and a controlled explosion has since safely taken place.

Members of the public were asked to avoid the area for their own safety.

It is the second controlled explosion in a week in Watford after a suspicious device was found in a car in Charlock Way, west Watford, last Wednesday. Police blew up the device in nearby King George V Recreation Ground.

Enquiries are still ongoing into the Charlock Way incident and police have confirmed today’s incident is not linked.
