A car has smashed into a lamppost on the ring road this morning.

One lane is blocked and police have cordoned off an area of Exchange Road in Watford town centre.

Police and fire crews are in attendance and the crash involved a single car; a red Nissan ZX. It happened at around 8am.

Fortunately there were no injuries.

There is glass and debris all over the ground which is why police have taken the decision to put a cordon across to ensure safety for members of the public.

Watford Observer:

The incident has happened just before the junction of Vicarage Road in lane one of three.

A recovery truck is also at the scene but the car remains smashed into the lamppost which is now leaning in one direction.

The underpass is open to pedestrians but there is no access for drivers into Vicarage Road.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 8.06am today to Exchange Road, Watford, to reports that a car had collided with a lamppost.

"No-one was injured but the car – a red Nissan ZX – needs to be recovered. Due to road closures at this time motorists can’t turn into Vicarage Road from Exchange Road.

"Police, Highways and UK Power are working to recover the car and make the lamppost safe.

"We’re still at the scene."
