The names of the 270 men from the area who died in the First World War have been commemorated on a wall of poppies.

The soldiers, who were from Rickmansworth and Croxley, have been honoured at the Three Rivers Museum in Basing House.

Children from Rickmansworth Park, Little Green, St Mary's and St Peter's Schools were asked to make a poppy and write on it the name, address, date of death and age of a serviceman.

Several children were amazed to find that they lived in a house where one of the men had lived over a hundred years ago.

The museum was loaned photographs, letters and other documents concerning several me.

One was Sergeant George Coster, of Moor Lane, Rickmansworth, who died of pneumonia on the 11th of November 1918, Armistice Day.

The museum is open Monday to Friday from 2 to 4pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm.
