Two Sidcup women have been celebrated for having an astonishing 100 years of Girlguiding experience between them.

Alison Hope and Eileen Vampew were invited to Westminster Abbey on November 3 to join Scouts and Guides for a national service of celebration and thanksgiving where both women were thanked for their service and dedication to the movements.

Eileen, who has 50 years' experience in leadership, has held a number of posts including district commissioner in Lamorbey Guides.

Alison joined the movement as a Brownie in 1964 and has held the roles of leader for Brownies and Guides and also formed the Blackfen Rainbow Unit in 1981.

She has also been district commissioner for Lamorbey and her leadership experience extends to over 44 years.

Alison expressed her gratitude of being invited to attend on the day, saying: "We were so honoured to join Scouts and Guides from all over the country for the special service."

Eileen added that the service as a whole was "very moving" for them both as both the UK chief commissioner for Scouting, Tim Kidd and chief Guide, Amanda Medlar were present on the day to lead the Scouts and Guides in renewing their promises to the service.
