A community centre is helping lead a grassroots football revolution after being selected to take part in an initiative which makes it easier than ever to book a session.

Meriden Community Centre in Watford has been chosen as one of 25 venues to take part in a project between the Football Foundation and MyLocalPitch.

The Football Foundation, the largest sports charity in the UK, has teamed up to roll out its innovative booking portal for community football venues.

MyLocalPitch is a free service that enables players to find and book games and sessions online through a website or app. Research from the Football Foundation shows 43 per cent of people are frustrated with not knowing whether pitches are available when trying to book but this initiative solves that.

The Meriden Community Centre opened in 2016 after a near £2m refurbishment.

It was officially re-opened by the late Graham Taylor, then Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill, and Hornets’ Troy Deeney, Heurelho Gomes, and Jerome Sinclair.

Jamie Foale, MyLocalPitch CEO, said: “Meriden Community Centre has some of the best football facilities around and we’re thrilled to be working together.

"The Football Foundation has made huge strides transforming the landscape of community football and delivering a digital solution using our platform will make access better for footballers all over the country.”

The partnership also means the Football Foundation will be able to track the number of people playing, their time spent at the facility, and how many times they visit.
