Members of a church are reaching out to the community to help raise cash as it continues to repay costs for a major roof replacement.

Six years ago, All Saints’ Church in Leavesden needed its roof rebuilding. Due to its listed status, the roof had to match the original shaped tiles and heritage paint colours inside.

The job cost more than £230,000 with 80 per cent of it raised by the church congregation, community, and heritage trusts. But the church had to take out a £40,000 loan.

On Saturday December 1, the church will host its Christmas market and they want to beat last year’s fundraising total of £1,400.

Watford Observer:

Father Eddie Green said: “If we can raise enough money then we are able to give more support to our local community. We do this by holding activities like the Tots and Teddies sessions. These are free to parents with babies and toddlers and give them a chance to meet other families.

“Last year the response from the community and businesses was fantastic and I would like to say thank you to all of the people and businesses.”

This year, the U3A choir will be performing and singing traditional Christmas songs to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

Activities on the day will include, face painting, games, a Santa’s grotto, and craft stalls.

The market will take place at All Saints Church, All Saints Crescent, Watford WD25 0LU.

It will be open from 10.30am-2.30pm on December 1.
