Elstree and Borehamwood Museum is giving visitors a chance to look behind the scenes of Elstree Studios with their new exhibition.

The new display celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Save Our Studios campaign to keep Elstree Studios from closure. You can go behind the scenes through the personal photographs of ex-studio staff, watch archive news footage from 1988, look at maps and plans, as well as find out what might have happened if the studios had not survived.

The exhibition, celebrating the campaign which changed Borehamwood forever, includes personal photographs, original news footage, relics and artifacts from the studios loaned by campaign organiser, Paul Welsh.

Councillor Caroline Clapper, responsible for leisure, culture and health, said: “The dedicated team at Elstree and Borehamwood Museum have created another interesting and interactive display showing the history of the Save Our Studios campaign, which is an important part of the town's history.

"Not only can you learn about the campaign, but the kids can come along, dress up in the props room and star in their own Star Wars movie. Then they can have a go at editing a film for themselves. My personal favourite from the exhibition is Dracula's hand and it was interesting to discover how big Tom Cruise's feet are.

“I would like to thank all the volunteers for their continued hard-work and enthusiasm for creating such lively and interesting displays. I think young and old won’t be able to resist stepping into the studio, dressing up and getting up on stage to battle with Darth Vadar.”

The free exhibition is open four days a week, Tuesday to Thursday between midday and 6pm, and on Saturday from 10am to 3pm. It will run until the 20 April 2019.

It can be seen at 96 Shenley Road in the town centre.
