A small business is raising money for a Christmas dinner at a women’s refuge.

Cassiobury-based telemarketing business Mums Can Do is in its second year and this year is raising money for the Watford Women’s Refuge to buy gifts, treats and dinner for children and their mothers this Christmas.

The business has so far raised £600 for the centre and hopes to buy enough turkey for around 15 women and 27 children.

A spokesperson for the refuge said: “We are hoping to put a huge smile on their faces at this very difficult time of year when feelings of loss can be heightened.

"The businesses founder has been keen to help the Women’s Refuge as one of her team, in the past, sought refuge herself with her small son at the centre."

A spokesperson for Mums Can Do said: “The Watford Womens Refuge really do an amazing job in providing much needed solace and support when it’s needed most.

“Many of the women who seek charity are fleeing from the most horrific situations with their children, with only the clothes on their backs so at Christmas time the centre tries to make it as wonderful and as happy as it possibly can be.

“But they do rely heavily on donations which is why Mums Can Do have set up a Go Fund Me Page to raise as much money as they can to buy presents for all the children and mums.

“Just small items that will be much needed and appreciated, for example small toys, books and stationary for the younger children, gifts for mums and toiletries and gifts for the older teens, which this year, sadly, make up the largest age group in residense.”
