A vehicle showroom is to be turned into flats after planning permission was granted.
Councillors gave the green light to redevelop the Watford Vans site in St Albans Road, at the junction of Sheepcot Lane, at the planning committee meeting at Watford Borough Council last night.
The revised plans will see the showroom and offices demolished and replaced by 18 two-bedroom flats in a part four, part five-storey building.
Six of the flats will be “affordable”, falling just below the council’s 35 per cent target for affordable housing.
A previous application by Winreb Finance Limited in 2017 for 23 flats was refused.
The scheme will include 18 parking spaces. There will also be cycling facilities on site too. Access will be via St Albans Road.
In 2008, conditional planning permission was granted for 16 flats on the site but the application was later withdrawn.
The latest application was recommended for approval by council officers because it provided a building of “appropriate scale, massing, and design” on what is quite a prominent corner of St Albans Road.
