Police pursued an “out of control” van towing two diggers down the A41 last night.
Officers spotted a “suspicious” Ford Transit van near the Two Waters junction in Hemel Hempstead. The van was towing a trailer carrying two mini-diggers.
When police signalled for the vehicle to stop, the driver ignored them and tried to flee down the A41.
Eventually, the driver lost control and crashed on the A41 in Watford, before fleeing on foot.
Police say the van was displaying false number plates and enquiries suggest it was stolen from Aylesbury. The diggers on board the trailer are suspected of being stolen from High Wycombe.
The A41 was shut between the Dome roundabout and the A405 for a period of time.
• A 29-year-old man was arrested and is in police custody.
