A bus needs to be recovered after it drove into a bollard wrecking its front wheel.

The bus collided with the bollard in Clarendon Road, outside the Palace Theatre, in Watford town centre at around 3.30pm today.

It's believed the bus driver had only just began their journey towards High Wycombe and was on its way into Watford High Street when it crashed into the retractable bollard.

Watford Observer:

It has left the vehicle undriveable and Carousel Buses has confirmed its 15.03 service has been cancelled due to a “technical issue”.

Buses are unable to serve the High Street at this time. Carousel passengers have been told to alight at ‘Town Hall stop X’. It is unknown what plans other bus operators have while the road is blocked.

Police remain at the scene while they wait for the bus to be moved on.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has since said the driver has sustained injuries and a male and female passenger have been taken to hospital.

The East of England ambulance service has been approached for further information.

Watford Observer:

Signs are in place warning drivers that bollards are in operation and they should only proceed when the lights are showing. The bollard, which the bus has hit, lowers into the ground, allowing the vehicle to pass through safely.

The bollards have only been recently installed as part of the £2m high street refurbishment.
