A dramatic video shows the car on fire before a small explosion sent thick black smoke billowing into the area.

The car fire was captured on camera after it broke out in High Road, Bushey Heath, at around 5pm today.

The vehicle, a Mercedes, was already in a ball of flames when the fire engine turned up, blocking the road off, and just as they were preparing to put out the flames, there was a bang, and the fire went almost white, and the flumes of smoke turned thicker.

A driver who was following the Mercedes said she saw flames beneath his car and began sounding her horn to alert the driver in front.

Fortunately, he pulled over, before the witness shouted 'Get out' and he did before the fire could spread further.

Pictures taken after the fire was put out showed a burnt out wreckage of the car.

The cause of the fire is unconfirmed at this stage.
