Watford Borough Council will receive an additional £35,000 as part of a new Brexit “windfall” payment scheme announced by the Government.
James Brokenshire MP, secretary of state for communities, housing and local government, said the money is to “assist councils” in their preparations for the possible impact of leaving the European Union and mitigate any fallout from a potential “no-deal”.
Cllr Ian Stotesbury, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Watford said: “Although it's welcome that the Government are at least thinking of local councils in its Brexit preparations, this doesn't go anywhere near far enough. With a recent study stating that Watford could be one of the worst impacted council areas from a costly no-deal Brexit, the Government has got to further to mitigate the impact of Brexit on our town.”
