PEOPLE in affluent parts of York live for an average of eight years longer than those living in more deprived districts, the report reveals.

It says, for example, that a woman’s average life expectancy in the Heworth Without council ward is 88, compared with only 80 in the Westfield ward.

And a man’s average life expectancy in Clifton is just over 76 while in Wheldrake it is 84.

There are also relatively low life expectancy figures for Acomb, Heworth, Guildhall, Fishergate, Micklegate, Holgate and Hull Road, and relatively high expectancy rates in wards including Copmanthorpe, Rural West York, Bishopthorpe, Fulford and Heslington, and Wheldrake.

The report says: “Life expectancy varies across the city. The graph demonstrates a clear correlation between poverty and life expectancy, with people living in the more deprived wards likely to die at a younger age than those in the more affluent wards.”

Other findings in the report include:

>>> How the use of foodbanks in York has soared by a quarter

>>> How York's rough sleepers have been attacked, abused and urinated on

>>>How a lack of pitches is affecting the mental health of travellers
