A bus company has confirmed it is terminating one of its services.

Uno will no longer run the 657 bus which runs between Borehamwood and Harpenden from Saturday April 20 this year.

A section of this route is subsidised by Hertfordshire County Council and the council confirmed earlier this month the contract for the 657 would be up for renewal and there were no plans to stop the service.

The 657 would have been of particular loss to people living in Shenley on the Borehamwood side with no other services running through that part of the village.

Uno Buses managing director Jim Thorpe said: “We realise this will not be a welcomed decision for some, however in these challenging times, it’s important that we develop a strong network for the future.

“We have to make sure the Uno network is sustainable going forward so we have to carry out reviews to make sure we allocate the limited resources we have to services which are used by most people.

“A section of this route is subsidised by the county council and we understand they are now in discussions with other bus companies to hopefully secure a level of service.”
