A south Hertfordshire MP has said Brexit should be delayed if Parliament does not approve a deal in the coming days.
Justice Secretary David Gauke is among three pro-EU Cabinet ministers including Greg Clark and Amber Rudd willing to defy the Prime Minister to back moves by MPs to prevent a no-deal Brexit in next week's crunch Commons vote.
The trio issued the blunt warning publicly for the first time to stop Tory Brexiteers in the European Research Group (ERG) forcing a “disastrous” hard exit from the EU.
In a statement to the BBC Number 10 said: "The PM is working hard to ensure we get a deal with the EU that allows us to deliver on the result of the referendum.
"That is where the Cabinet's energy should be focused."
Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen said all three should resign for being in breach of Cabinet collective responsibility.
