Rail users in Watford will see an increase in train services during peak times this summer.

Richard Harrington MP welcomed a new timetable proposed by London Northwestern Railway which will include three trains an hour passing through Watford Junction from London Euston.

The new service, beginning May 19, will see more 12-car trains during rush hour to reduce overcrowding - running through to Birmingham, Liverpool, Stoke on Trent, Crewe and Walsall.

London North Western Rail and the Government invested £1b to improve services in December 2017, after pressure from transport ministers and Mr Harrington.

Long term plans include production of a new fleet of commuter trains, some of which will be electric.

Mr Harrington said: “As a regular commuter into London, I know that our train services can be irregular and overcrowded, which just isn’t good enough.

“In 2017, I worked closely with transport ministers and train operators on a new deal for rail users. As a result, London Midland was replaced with London Northwestern Rail, and together with the Department for Transport, they are investing £1b into that network.

“For Watford, this means a new timetable which includes more services during rush hour, with more of them being 12-car trains.

“But this is just the start. By 2021, Watford rail users will benefit from a whole new train fleet, increasing capacity on our Euston services by 10,000 seats each day.”
