Police think a suspected stolen moped used during an incident in which a teenager’s hand was reportedly “chopped off” may have been dumped in a river.
Hertfordshire Constabulary received information the moped believed to have been used during an alleged incident of grievous bodily harm may have been discarded in a waterway in the Abbots Langley, Kings Langley, Garston or Cassiobury areas.
Police were called to Long Elms, Abbots Langley, at around 8.30pm on Sunday (February 10) where an 18-year-old man suffered life-changing injuries.
Two men were arrested and the victim was rushed to hospital for treatment.
At the time, Hertfordshire police said a “knife” was used to attack the man – but other reports suggest a machete was used.
Che Ambe, 21, of Caractacus Cottage View, Watford, has been charged with grievous bodily harm. He appeared at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (February 12) and was remanded in custody until March 18.
A 17-year-old boy from Watford who was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm was released with no further action.
Detective Constable Steve Mason from the Three Rivers Local Crime Unit said: “We are keen to trace this moped as part of our enquiries. We will be following up all leads, but if you believe you have come across it, please get in touch via 101 or through email at steve.mason@herts.pnn.police.uk.”
