Michael Kings in his letter Flogging off Artworks (Letters to the Editor, March 8) echoed my sentiments exactly.
Terry Douris is always very flippant about the loss of treasures and services to the community, but wherever he is shifted to in the council the story is the same, cuts, destruction and the loss of all we hold dear.
He is well remembered in Hemel Hempstead for dismissing protests about the loss of our much loved music venue, The Pavilion, by saying people could easily travel to other available venues such as Waterside in Aylesbury, then cut bus services!
The books and artworks in question are ours, not the council’s. We paid for them, the council didn’t. The artwork, as Michael King so rightly says, has been hidden away from us - but we know it’s there. It should be circulated in our schools and public buildings as it used to be, not flogged off to the nearest crony.
