A 5k walk initiative is encouraging people to make their move against cancer through spirit and exercise.
A community-based initiative is to launch to push those living with and beyond cancer, friends, family and those in cancer services to either walk, jog or run.
The ‘5k your way’ national scheme has come to the Aquadrome in Rickmansworth and aims to urge those who have been touched by cancer to get involved in the community.
Juliet Fitzpatrick is the community ambassador of the event and was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2016 and believes it is important to set up a monthly support network for those living with and beyond cancer.
She said: “Because I had breast cancer and I found it difficult to find anywhere I could do exercise. I saw this and it was a great opportunity.”
The parkrun event also aims to build friendships, encourage participation in physical activity, improve confidence, self-esteem and reduce social isolation.
The park run takes place on the last Saturday of every month. To find out more about the ‘5k your way’ organisation go to www.5kyourway.org .
